Lithuanian poultry meat exporters can now ship their products to South Korea and beef exporters—to Taiwan. This has been confirmed by the competent authorities of both countries.
South Korea has officially confirmed that Lithuania can export poultry meat to the country. The list includes three poultry establishments that were jointly audited by two South Korean authorities in September 2022 for the registration of Lithuanian poultry establishments for export to South Korea. Authorisations could have been granted even earlier, as negotiations for the harmonisation of export authorisations were already nearing completion in 2018, but further processes were stalled by the pandemic.
Moreover, authorisation procedures for export of egg products to South Korea have also been started.
The competent authority of Taiwan has reported that Lithuania can export beef and beef products from 16 January of this year. Since the end of last year, Lithuanian egg, milk and fish products can be exported to the country. Such authorisations were granted to Lithuania by the competent authorities of Taiwan in less than a year.
“We very much welcome and appreciate the growing cooperation and the amiable and consistent bilateral relations with these countries in the Southeast Asia region. We see great potential for closer business relations between Lithuania and South Korea and Taiwan, and we hope that the agreed new export permits will contribute to the growth of trade volumes and will open up even more opportunities for food industry businesses in our countries. I am delighted that the high-level visits to Taiwan and South Korea last year and the meetings with the competent authorities during these visits have accelerated the completion of the authorisation procedures,” says Minister of Agriculture K. Navickas.
“The opening of the South Korean and Taiwanese markets has required intensive work by the SFVS specialists in filling in detailed questionnaires, organising audits, harmonising veterinary export certificates and lists of approved establishments for export. We are also pleased with the political support that enabled us to achieve these results,” says Audronė Mikalauskienė, Deputy Director, acting on behalf of the Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service.
